Hi, I'm Jo and I have worked as an ecological consultant for 12 years, setting up Alderwood Ecology in 2026.

Over the years, I have worked, primarily, in development ecology and am well versed in ecological assessment. This includes ​ Ecological Impact Assessments, Environmental Statement Chapters and Habitat Regulations Assessments. I hold a GCN class licence and have held District Level Licences as well as being a Named Ecologist on Natural England Full Mitigation Licences for GCN and badgers. I am keen birder and c permit ringer and enjoy breeding and wintering bird survey work including nocturnal surveys using thermal imaging equipment. 

 

Don't judge me but I really enjoy Biodiversity Net Gain and have completed the River Condition Assessment training certifying me to complete watercourse unit calculations as part of this. I love problem solving a site and working with landowners to retain and protect the natural features they have, whilst understanding how the land can be improved for biodiversity through tweaks to management and maybe a little sprinkling of seed!

More recently I have been lucky enough to work with the Species Recovery Trust as a conservation officer in the central region working on saving rare and endangered plant species across Essex, Bedfordshire, Oxfordshire and Norfolk. I have been lucky to meet some incredibly passionate people who commit their free time to protecting some of our rarest, and, quite honestly, most fickle, plant species. Working with volunteers in this way is always inspiring and motivating. I always try to channel this when sharing my passion for nature and the outdoors with others.
